International Graduate Pathway Program - Application Process

UMBC Students

Apply directly to the Graduate School; a separate ELI application is not required:

Step 1: Submit your application to the Graduate School.

Step 2: If you are admitted to the Pathway Program, you must submit financial documents to UMBC’s International Education Services (IES) office.  IES will issue your Form I-20 so that you may apply for a F-1 student visa.

Step 3: After you arrive at UMBC, you will take an English placement test at the ELI.  The results of this test will determine if you will study in the Pathway Program for one semester or two semesters.  Most students will study in the Pathway Program for one semester.

Pathway students will take four courses (three ESL and one academic):

Tuition & fees for one semester of the Pathway Program are $11,115 USD.

Step 4: After you earn grades of A or B in ELC 61, ELC 63 and ELC 65, you will begin full-time graduate study (no additional TOEFL, IELTS or PTE is required).

Students who spend one semester in the Pathway Program can still complete their Master’s degree within two years by taking extra classes in summer.
