Payment Options

You will pay for tuition after you arrive at the ELI.  During ELI orientation, you must pay in full for the first session or semester.  Installment plans, financial assistance, and loans are not available. You may not begin classes without payment.

You will receive separate bills from UMBC (due later, on the 20th of every month) for health insurance, dormitory housing, and meal plans.

UMBC can accept the following types of payments:

  • Cash
  • U.S. checks and money orders
  • Credit or debit cards – all cards must have a three-digit CVV number (security code).  There is a 2.75% fee for all credit and debit card payments.
  • International wire transfer – contact the ELI for instructions before orientation.

Sponsored & scholarship students:  Many ELI students are sponsored by a government agency, embassy, or employer.  The ELI must receive the proper documents before UMBC can send a bill for ELI tuition to a third party.  Please contact the ELI before orientation for more information and instructions.

If you drop classes or withdraw from the ELI after the first day of classes, you may not receive a full refund of your tuition payment.

  • Classes that begin in January, May, and August: see the UMBC refund calendar.
  • Classes that begin in March and October: no refunds after the first week of classes.
