Medical Insurance

UMBC has a health center on campus that all students can use.  Information on the health center can be found here including hours of operation, services and other helpful information.

All new ELI students in F-1 visa status will buy UMBC health insurance, so they can visit the center for healthcare and pay relatively low fees for most routine visits and treatments. More information on Aetna Student Health programs can be found here.

Health care is not nationalized in the U.S., so it has very different procedures and much higher costs than in many other countries. For this reason, it is very important that students have sufficient U.S.-based health insurance coverage while in the U.S. An estimate of UMBC health insurance costs per semester may be found here.
