Conditional Admission – Application Process

Admission to the ELI and conditional admission to the Graduate School at UMBC are separate:

Step 1: Submit your application to the Graduate School.

Step 2: Send an email to the Graduate School, to explain that you are requesting conditional admission.

Step 3: If you are approved, submit your application to the ELI. The ELI will issue your Form I-20 so that you may apply for a F-1 student visa.

Step 4: Study at the ELI until you complete Level 6 classes with grades of A or B (no TOEFL or IELTS is required). You may begin full-time graduate study after you pass ELI Level 6 or achieve the required TOEFL or IELTS score for your program. Some programs will permit you to begin part-time graduate study while you complete ELI Level 6.
